The Town of Summerville Planning Commission held a public hearing and business meeting on July 20, 2026. A representative of the Berkeley-Charleston-Dorchester Council of Governments presented the five-year review of the town’s comprehensive plan, including updated land-use, housing, transportation, economic, natural-resources, and resiliency information and revised implementation priorities. The presenter noted the town had received more than $16 million in grants across departments and identified projects including the completed Berlin G… extension, the ongoing Oakbrook redevelopment plan (including the YMCA sports complex), and an urban forestry management plan. The commission unanimously approved the five-year review. No contract awards or purchasing decisions were identified.

The commission also heard a rezoning request for approximately 0.67 acres at 115 South Magnolia Street, from GR2 General Residential to NMX Neighborhood Mixed Use. The owner supported the change, while nearby residents and other speakers raised concerns about consistency with the comprehensive plan, preservation of the residential and historic character, and expanded potential uses. The commission unanimously voted to deny the request. Discussion of transit included a plan recommendation to work with Tri-County Link on a connection to the fairgrounds park-and-ride; no transit procurement or funding action was taken.
