The Mount Pleasant Town Council special and regular meetings were held September 8, 2026. Council approved a temporary moratorium on new data-center development by a 7–2 vote; it applies to new development, not existing operations. Council also approved the FY2027 millage rate of 44.3 mills and the local-option sales-tax credit factor. The council accepted a foundation’s donation of a police K-9, whose value exceeds the town’s $10,000 approval threshold; the dog has not yet been selected. No competitive contract award or vendor selection was reported. Separately, the Tree Task Force recommended a goal of planting 1,500 trees annually, funding a staff position to lead the effort, and pursuing selected tree-ordinance changes. Council received its report and authorized possible workshops to help develop ordinances.

Council discussed the town-owned 38-acre Faison Road property, purchased in 2021 for $6.5 million. Options raised included retaining or selling the land, issuing a new RFP, pursuing a public-private project, or preserving it for green space or community uses; council took no substantive action and directed further consideration through the Economic Development Committee, including the YMCA proposal. Council also deferred a proposed density ordinance for further committee review, passed amendments to align the town’s historic-district subdivision moratorium with Charleston County’s, and considered several zoning matters. No procurement award or expenditure for development of the 38-acre site was approved.
