The Town of Mount Pleasant’s committee meetings on August 3, 2026, approved two procurement items unanimously. The Bids and Purchases Committee recommended and approved a one-year contract, with four one-year renewal options, to Walden Security for Town Hall armed and unarmed security services for $196,100; the award followed evaluation of three bids using six equally weighted factors and was within the Town’s budget. The committee also approved a $119,760 design-services contract with Kimley-Horn for signalized-intersection upgrades at 24 corridor intersections and two isolated intersections. The approximately 150-day design project is part of the Town’s $2.3 million SCDOT climate-reduction grant and will replace existing signal heads to improve traffic operations and reduce idling. The Finance Committee reviewed CARTA’s proposed FY2027 budget, including bus and Shipwatch Square facility construction costs, but had no quorum and made no recommendation to Council.
Other capital and policy discussions included updates on construction underway at Gary Santos Park and Mugsy Curr Park; staff agreed to research options and costs for enhancing the Gary Santos playground and report back. In the Education Committee, staff described preparations for the federal digital-accessibility requirements taking effect in April 2027, including plans to incorporate accessibility requirements into the Town’s procurement process for online content. The Green Commission ordinance was approved unanimously as a standing commission. No other contract awards or purchasing approvals were identified in the remaining discussions.
