The Somerville Board of Architectural Review (BAR) met September 1, 2026, to review historic-district applications. It unanimously approved renovations at 116 Charleston Street, including removal of the existing carport, construction of a detached two-car garage and breezeway, and exterior house updates. The board accepted the proposed metal-roof striations with the understanding that they would be minimally visible from the street. It also approved seasonal window paintings at 127 West Richardson through the end of 2026; the applicant was advised to coordinate future displays with the town as responsibility may shift to the Cultural Arts Commission.
The board revisited work at 100 Marian Avenue after finding that construction differed materially from the previously approved design and a stop-work order had been issued. Members discussed roof height and form, columns, windows, doors, and chimney details. The applicants agreed to revise and submit measured drawings and renderings reflecting the board’s recommendations for review; the transcript ends before a final vote is recorded. No public purchasing, contract awards, budget allocations, or other procurement activity was identified.
