The Town of Summerville special council meeting and land use workshop on August 24, 2026, included an approval of lease-purchase financing for vehicles and equipment, with an aggregate principal amount not to exceed $2,275,000. Council described this as part of its annual capital program, including approximately $2 million budgeted for rolling stock and other capital needs and about $200,000 carried over from the prior year. The motion to approve passed. In executive session, council discussed negotiations related to the Nash Nex development agreement, the proposed sale of the town-owned former park-and-ride property at Gum Street and Berlin Myers Parkway, and contractual arrangements for the public safety complex; no action was taken on those matters.

The workshop also considered land-use and development code updates. Council voted to advance proposed lot-coverage allowances for religious and educational institutions and certain changes to neighborhood mixed-use zoning to the Planning Commission; it also voted to advance a proposal to prohibit convenience stores adjacent to residential property. Short-term-rental revisions were deferred for further review. Council gave direction on proposed future-land-use-map changes for later consideration and first reading. These land-use items were referrals or proposed amendments, not procurement awards.
