The Town of Mount Pleasant Planning Commission met on September 23, 2026. The commission denied Middle Street Partners’ proposed Oakland Plantation planned-development amendment for 87 townhomes and a 4,000-square-foot commercial component. Discussion centered on traffic, density, housing affordability, tree preservation, and consistency with the comprehensive plan. The commission also denied a subdivision sketch plan and associated land-development regulations for a property on Faulner Drive; discussion addressed access and maintenance agreements, stormwater management, septic systems, and tree impacts. No procurement, contract award, or purchasing action was identified.
The commission discussed data-center zoning and the town’s existing land-use definitions, including concerns about water and energy use, noise, building scale, and the risk that broad definitions could inadvertently affect smaller businesses’ computing facilities. Staff outlined possible code changes for further consideration, such as refining definitions and limiting permitted zoning districts or requiring special-exception review; no data-center zoning change was adopted at this meeting. Staff also reported that Town Council had approved first reading of a temporary 120-day moratorium on accepting and processing data-center applications, and had approved a temporary moratorium on major subdivisions in Charleston County historic districts. These were reported council actions, not procurement decisions.
