The Greenwood County Datacenter Ad Hoc Committee held its organizational meeting on September 30, 2026. Members unanimously elected Steve Coleman as chair and approved Dave Scoffield as vice chair. The committee discussed establishing a consistent meeting schedule, with staff to circulate a poll, and agreed to begin its review with water and sewer impacts, followed by other topics such as power and noise. Staff will help arrange experts and collect members’ questions in advance. The committee was reminded that it is a public body subject to Freedom of Information requirements; members also discussed public comment, written submissions, agendas, and meeting minutes.
The committee’s broader task is to study whether data centers are appropriate in Greenwood County and, if so, recommend safeguards and zoning regulations to the Planning Commission and County Council. Members reviewed the existing materials, including the council-approved amendments and a 12-month moratorium passed July 21, 2026, and discussed possible future approaches such as limits by facility size, buffers, setbacks, or a separate zoning district. No contracts, vendor selections, budget allocations, spending motions, or other procurement activity were identified.
