The Michigan City Port Authority Board of Directors met on October 5, 2026. The board approved the September 28 meeting minutes and approved payment of the bills presented. Items discussed included fuel for resale, landscaping, security, NIPCO, grills purchased from Lowe’s at a seasonal discount, and a $1,750 LaPorte County Herald charge for advertising in the tourism bureau’s 2027 guide. Harbor work is progressing: Great Lakes Dock and Material placed grout and more than 700 tons of gravel at the end of Lighthouse Pier, with resurfacing expected next; stone delivery for the outer breakwater was delayed, apparently by weather, and work was anticipated to begin when it arrived.

The board discussed, but made no decision on, proposed marina rate changes for the next season. A rate option was estimated to produce $114,860 in additional annual revenue, with a possible phased increase over two years. The attorney also reviewed proposed terms for the 2027–2028 Great Lakes Grand Prix license, including a $1,000 fee for 2028, parking-pass language, and $2 million in insurance coverage; the board will review a clean draft before considering approval. No vote on the rate changes or license was taken.
