The Salina Planning Commission met on October 6, 2026. It unanimously recommended approval, 6–0, of rezoning application ZMA26-00008, changing a commercially used storage property from R2 to C6; the change would also require paved parking and drive areas. The Commission also unanimously approved a conditional use permit, 6–0, for the City to reuse a former fire station as a public works maintenance facility, with fencing and landscaping to screen parking. An Evergreen subdivision item was deferred while the developer redesigns elements and staff prepares new public notice.

The Commission reviewed the proposed 2027–2031 Capital Improvements Program under Resolution 26-03, covering projects supported by sales tax, general obligation bonds, and enterprise funds. Projects discussed included the East Magnolia bridge and trail improvements, street and intersection work, parks and hike/bike trails, water lines, and landfill facilities. Public Works said the East Magnolia project would proceed to design in 2027 rather than construction, while the construction-and-demolition landfill cell was being advanced from design to construction in 2027. Commissioners discussed the bridge’s condition, cost, safety, and connectivity; no specific project awards or contract votes were captured, and the transcript ends before the Commission’s action on the CIP resolution.
