The Brockton City Council Finance Committee meeting on October 5, 2026, considered several spending matters. A proposed $1.6 million appropriation to purchase rubbish barrels, to be financed through borrowing and city bonds or notes, was tabled for reconsideration. The committee voted to recommend favorably to the full City Council a $40 payment to Printing Unlimited from the Mayor’s purchase-of-services account for a prior-year invoice, and payment of $17,257.44 in overdue police invoices ($8,886.19 for services and $8,371.25 for goods and supplies). It also recommended favorably a departmental transfer supporting the city’s youth employment program; the transfer amount was unclear in the transcript. DPW reported that 63 Brockton youth participated this year. The Mayor’s office separately reported awarding $50,000 in FY27 grants to five local organizations.

The committee also heard the school superintendent’s account of a state district review. The review cited progress in digitizing budgeting, contracting, and procurement procedures, while recommending continued work on written financial procedures and a capital plan and asset-tracking system for school buildings and equipment. No RFPs, vendor selections, or contract awards were identified. The committee also advanced several appointments and discussed election logistics and city youth programs.
