The City of Birmingham Multi Modal Transportation Board met on October 1, 2026. The board reviewed the East Lincoln Street resurfacing design between Woodward Avenue and South Eton Street, including protected parking, curb bumpouts, a proposed midblock pedestrian crossing, and signal-operation changes at Adams Road. After discussion, the board approved a motion to recommend that the City Commission advance the design as presented in Option A. The board is advisory and does not make final spending decisions. East Lincoln work is expected after the South Eton project; South Eton is planned for next construction season and will be bid through MDOT using a TAP grant, with bidding expected around November. No contract amount or contractor was identified. City engineering staff said they will coordinate project bid and construction schedules based on staffing capacity.

The board also discussed its action priorities for 2027, including intersection and sidewalk safety for non-vehicle travelers, bicycle parking in downtown parking garages, and work related to the multimodal plan. Staff expects to seek budget funding for a consultant to support the plan, but no budget allocation or procurement action was approved. Members discussed downtown micromobility and e-bike safety and enforcement; staff noted a possible e-bike ordinance is being developed for future City Commission consideration. The board approved the prior meeting minutes; no other spending votes were identified.
