The City of Birmingham Commission meeting was held October 5, 2026. Procurement discussion included planned construction work at the library loading-dock area: plans have been prepared, an RFP has been issued, and responses were received, but no contractor had been selected. Commissioners discussed the city’s ongoing parking supply-and-demand study and possible future redevelopment of underused city-owned parking lots, including whether to seek proposals for the Willits/Bates surface lot or another site. They considered parking capacity, public access to the river, retail or residential uses, and other public benefits, but took no vote or procurement action on a redevelopment RFP. A resident also presented concerns about the assumptions and data in the parking study.
The commission reviewed resident survey findings intended to inform policy and budget decisions, including priorities for roads, parks, sidewalks, and other services. A historical-society representative requested support for a proposed county millage, which could provide about $2.5 million annually for Oakland County public-history museums; the commission did not endorse it. The commission approved the consent agenda by roll-call vote, with one item excluded for separate discussion, and approved board appointments. No contract award or new spending authorization was identified.
