The City of Tuscaloosa Finance Committee meeting on October 7, 2026 (the meeting title lists October 6) approved several grant-related budget revisions and funding items. These included a $331,000 recycling grant for the Environmental Services Department and a $10,000 Safety First grant for fire-department hazmat protective equipment. The committee also approved an Elevate budget revision recognizing an $800,000 ALDOT Transportation Alternatives Program grant for the Skyland Boulevard streetscape and a $500,000 Appalachian Regional Commission grant for the Saban Center Career Lab; the latter uses $500,000 in already-planned project spending as its match. The committee separately authorized acceptance of the $800,000 TAP award agreement, with a stated $200,000 city match. The Skyland shared-use path is estimated to cost about $1.25 million, with roughly $1.3 million identified in project funding.
Other approved items included acceptance of a $5,000 donation from Central Alabama Asphalt to purchase eight ballistic shields for the Tuscaloosa Police Department, and a general-fund revision setting aside approximately $10,000 for a District 5 special election while transferring operations expansion items to contingency. The committee also approved several community and school-related allocations. Members discussed possible reassignment or outsourcing of web and digital-service functions, proposed staffing changes, and projected operating savings, but no decision on those proposals was recorded; a water-and-sewer budget revision to remove a vacant position was set for the following week. No RFPs, vendor selections, or contract awards were identified.
