Alvin ISD Board Workshop, October 6, 2026: District staff presented updates on campus safety and security and academic goals. Safety initiatives included expanding weapon-detection screening to junior high schools, police-led lockdown drills with partner agencies, staff emergency-response training, and community safety programs. The board reviewed upcoming consent-agenda items involving procurement and funding: proposal 2610 CCP; an Alvin High School audio-enhancement safety system funded through bond funds, with similar systems planned for other campuses; 2026 E-rate Category 1 and 2 funding with a 20% non-discount share; and replacement of the district’s virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI). No approval vote on these items was recorded in the transcript.
The board also reviewed a proposed interlocal agreement with the UT Regional Security Operations Center for K–12 cybersecurity services. Staff said it would supplement existing protections, support incident response and reporting, and allow the district to recoup eligible costs for endpoint detection and email protection; this would be the district’s first participation. A continuation grant with Communities In Schools for truancy-related services at Iowa Colony High School, Harvey Junior High, and Alvin Junior High was discussed, with updated board signatures needed for the Governor’s Office application. The board received proposed House Bill 3 academic targets and discussed student support strategies, but no related spending decision was recorded. The only vote noted was to adjourn, which passed 7–0.
