State & Local
The City of Montebello Planning Commission meeting was held October 6, 2026. The Commission unanimously approved the minutes of its September 15 meeting. Staff presented the city’s draft application for California’s Pro Housing Designation Program, explaining that Montebello expects to score 60 points against a 30-point minimum. Designation may improve the city’s competitiveness for certain state grants and provide access to funding opportunities for housing, infrastructure, transportation, and community development, but does not guarantee funding. The public comment period runs through October 21, the application is scheduled for City Council consideration on October 28, and the state may take up to 60 days to review a submitted application. If awarded, the designation lasts three years. The presentation was informational; the Commission took no action on it.
Staff also discussed the court-ordered approval of the 301 project, noting that the City Council acted on September 9 to overturn the prior denial and approve the project as required by the court. The Commission discussed whether to receive a report on the findings but took no formal action; staff said the project would still proceed through applicable permitting and conditions-of-approval processes. No contract awards, purchasing decisions, or other procurement activity were identified.
