At its October 6, 2026 meeting, the Lafayette City Council held a public hearing on the 2027 budget and related procurement and capital plans. The city manager reported a bond sale that drew 16 firms; the selected firm’s average interest rate was about 4.7%, below the 5.29% ceiling, with closing expected October 20. The city anticipates issuing $74 million in bonds for the Bob L. Burger Recreation Center, Service Center, and Civic Center projects. Staff presented an $8.8 million guaranteed-maximum-price design-build amendment for the Service Center renovation with Buildings by Design and D2C Architects; the project had received 11 submissions through a competitive process, but the transcript does not capture a council vote on the amendment. The recommended budget also includes, among other items, $100,000 for parks and recreation management software, $1.3 million for a fire engine, and capital funding for transportation safety and utility projects.

Council approved the 2027 budget resolution without funding the Flock Safety contract, whose 2027 appropriation was listed as $77,500; that resolution passed 5–1, and the corresponding appropriation ordinance passed unanimously on first reading. The fee ordinance also passed unanimously on first reading. Council unanimously approved an 18-month moratorium on new data-center land-use applications, and considered an emergency moratorium on advanced air mobility facilities. Other procurement- and business-related items included approval of a temporary short-term-rental festival-license pilot for the Sundance Film Festival and discussion of utility-rate increases, including proposed water, reclamation, and stormwater increases of 16%, 9%, and 8%, respectively.
