Granite Schools Board study session, October 6, 2026, included a capital and construction update. The district reported progress on school security fencing, fire-alarm work, and building projects. Seven fencing projects were completed, with additional sites underway or in review; the district is working with its vendor to address issues found in the first round. Fire-alarm and carbon-monoxide detection projects at Ben and Churchill Junior Highs had been awarded and were awaiting materials. The district said it was aiming to bring a contractor recommendation to the November board meeting for a project expected to begin in December. The Event Center Elementary rebuild was in design, with general-contractor bid approval planned for January and construction to follow. No contract amounts or change orders were reported.

The board also reviewed academic and student-experience data following school closures. Reported proficiency, growth, and teacher-student relationship measures generally improved for students who moved to other Granite schools, while the sense-of-belonging data prompted questions and requests for further analysis. Board members asked for retention data showing whether students enrolled at their assigned boundary schools, outcomes for receiving schools, and closer examination of belonging trends. The superintendent said a communications plan would be developed to share the findings. No spending-related motions or votes were reported.
