The Waukee City Council’s October 5, 2026 regular meeting included public comments opposing the previously approved Walmart Supercenter near Hickman Road and Alice’s Road, citing traffic, noise, lighting, stormwater, pedestrian safety, deliveries, and security concerns. Residents asked the Council to reconsider or pause approvals; no action was taken on those comments during the meeting. The Council held hearings and approved, by recorded votes, first readings for zoning amendments allowing additional signage at Waukee Town Center and a density adjustment for The Wren development, with no increase to its previously proposed 80 units. It also approved two easement vacations and development applications including a 20-lot residential final plat and Waukee Town Center plats and a site plan for a multi-tenant retail building.

The Council also approved the first reading of an ordinance adding parcels to the Waukee Consolidated Urban Renewal Area, citing anticipated development in the next 12–24 months and the capture of tax increment to support growth and investment, and approved the second reading of a related Kettlestone Residential Urban Renewal Area ordinance. No contracts, vendor selections, purchasing decisions, or other procurement activity were identified.
