The City of Culver City Parks, Recreation & Community Services Commission met on October 6, 2026. The commission received and filed reports on summer programs and Fiesta La Ballona, and reviewed upcoming agenda items involving capital projects and grant applications. No contract awards or procurement approvals were made at this meeting. Staff reported that work on the lower Bill Botts Field is complete, plans for the upper-field project are finished, and the project can proceed toward bidding; demolition and salvage work are also being prepared. A field-and-court lighting upgrade is underway and expected to finish in about two months. Staff also described a $344,000 grant for design and construction documents at Culver City Park, with consideration being given to expanding the scope into master planning the lower park area.

Upcoming City Council items include applications for a $1.25 million Land and Water Conservation Fund grant to redo and relocate the Vets Park ball field, requiring an estimated $625,000 local match, and three Statewide Park and Community Revitalization grant applications totaling $11.5 million for Fox Hills Park ($8.5 million), Telesen Park ($2 million), and Culver West Alexander ($1 million), with no matching requirements. Staff also noted a planned Baldwin Hills Conservancy grant application for Park De Playa trail expansion and potential stormwater-capture features at Culver City Park. The commission unanimously received and filed the upcoming-agenda report; these grant applications were presented as forthcoming items, not approved by the commission. Summer camp fee increases are planned for the next season, while staff are considering subsidies for lower-income families and revisions to the refund policy.
