The City of Palm Springs Public Art Commission met on October 1, 2026. The commission approved a motion authorizing up to $50,000 from the Public Art Fund or other available revenue sources for repairs/restoration of Crawler and the Pride Monument, and regular Pride Monument maintenance, subject to City Council approval if required. The Pride Monument’s estimated monthly professional cleaning cost was $1,500; the artist’s estimate for repairing the damaged area of Crawler was $7,500, with a full repaint estimated at about $20,000. Signature Sculpture is the maintenance contractor, and staff described prioritizing work within the existing maintenance agreement. The commission discussed reviewing the maintenance schedule quarterly and possibly seeking additional City funding if ongoing costs exceed available maintenance resources.

The commission also voted to accept the Arenas Road time capsule and its contents into the city’s commemorative public art inventory; the gifting application must be completed and submitted to City Council for final approval. Other discussions included prospective mural locations, which must be approved by Council before being presented as available sites, and the Sunrise Park anniversary event and AIDS Memorial installation. No other contract awards or purchasing approvals were identified.
