The City of Redmond City Council’s regular business meeting on October 6, 2026, featured presentations on Habitat for Humanity’s affordable-homeownership model and the mayor’s preliminary 2027–2028 biennial budget. The proposed budget totals approximately $1.4 billion, a 5% increase over the prior biennium, and includes $6 million for housing and human services, $35 million for a teen center rebuild, $20 million for Fire Station 11, and $250 million for redevelopment of the maintenance and operations center. These are preliminary allocations; budget hearings and council deliberations are scheduled for later in October and November. Public commenters urged additional affordable-housing investment and funding for a consolidated development-services department, among other priorities, but no budget decision was made at this meeting.
The council approved a $268,000 supplement to the consultant services agreement for the teen center project by a 7–0 vote. Staff said three consultants from a state roster were evaluated through interviews and statements of qualifications; the selected progressive-design-build consultant will support the project through validation, while a separate design-build contract is expected to come to council, potentially before year-end. The council also heard that tourism contractor Green Rubino was selected through a bidding process and that the preliminary budget proposes one-time funding to explore an independent destination-management organization. No amount for that proposed funding was stated. The consent agenda passed 7–0, and the meeting included discussion of a $99,225 extension of a veterans, seniors, and human-services levy grant reported from committee.
