The Putnam County Legislature’s regular meeting on October 6, 2026, approved several spending and property actions. It authorized demolition of the county-owned building at 34 Ganaida Avenue and, by an amended resolution, directed General Services to issue an RFP within 30 days for a qualified consultant to conduct community outreach on future uses of the property; the amendment did not make the demolition contingent on completing that process. The Legislature also approved $1,280,400 for the Stone Ridge Avenue/Druver Road intersection roundabout and its local-match budget amendment, a $275,000 transfer for general-services electricity, and a $100,000 transfer for abatement and demolition work at the DA’s conference room. Other approved items included a $1,000 private donation for digitizing county historical newspapers, $247,700 in mental-health state aid, and a $380,152 appropriation to expand People USA’s existing mobile crisis team. No vendor award was made for the consultant RFP.

The Legislature approved an application for additional state family-defense grant funding, although the Putnam County Legal Aid chief attorney later told members the time-sensitive, first-come opportunity had closed and the county would be unable to apply; members discussed developing a process or exception for future no-match grants. It also approved a 2025–2034 solid-waste management plan, subject to state review, and a local law changing the timing of elected officials’ compensation adjustments. A separate charter amendment to allow a simple-majority override of certain county executive budget vetoes passed and is subject to a mandatory referendum. Members discussed distributing $6.5 million—or potentially more—to towns and villages to help with budgets, but no allocation was approved at this meeting.
