The Polk County Board of Supervisors meeting on October 6, 2026, approved the FY2026–27 budget amendment and several agreements and funding resolutions. The board approved an agreement with Simonson & Associates for planning work related to the Iowa Event Center/entertainment-district corridor, with three votes in favor and one supervisor passing. Public comment cited a fiscal note of $175,000–$200,000 versus a proposal of $251,000–$273,000 plus reimbursable expenses, and asked about a spending cap and whether an RFP had been issued. County staff said it was not competitively bid because it was an architectural service and was compliant with county procurement procedures; no spending cap was stated in the discussion. Other approved items included a cooperative agreement with Pleasant Hill for the 2026–27 HMA resurfacing project, professional services from Olsen, Inc. for a traffic-signal infrastructure review, and funding or grant agreements that included $250,000 for Trees Forever and a forgivable loan agreement with Focus Youth Crisis Center and its Mobile Crisis Team.
County Conservation reported that the Sleepy Hollow project had secured $4 million from the county and $4 million from County Conservation; a demolition, earthwork, and utilities contract was expected to go out shortly, followed by contracts for the lodge, ski runs, and snow equipment, with opening targeted for Christmas 2027. The board also approved the submitted bill list and other resolutions, including an agreement with the Ankeny Art Center and a 28E agreement with the Polk County Housing Trust Fund. No other budget actions were reported.
