The Wethersfield Planning and Zoning Commission meeting on October 6, 2026, approved a site-plan modification for Dutch Point Credit Union at 195 Silas Deane Highway. The work includes removing pavement and a former drive-up teller lane, adding parking and a bypass lane for the remaining ITM, and updating building signage and exterior finishes. The motion passed unanimously. The commission also made a favorable Section 8-24 referral for a proposed historic-preservation grant related to the Old Academy property; the restriction would take effect only if funding is awarded. The town expects to submit the grant application by the end of October and learn the result in November. A separate favorable referral, also approved, covered maintenance easements needed for sections of the multi-use trail within state highway rights-of-way. Construction bidding for the trail is tentatively anticipated next spring, but no contract or construction award was made.
The public hearing for the proposed new Highland Elementary School continued without a decision to November 3, subject to venue availability. The presentation covered the site layout, circulation, sidewalks, wetlands, stormwater, utilities, and building design. Commissioners and residents raised questions about traffic and pedestrian safety, sewer capacity, tree removal, school security, operating costs, and the proposed outdoor classroom; the applicant said remaining town engineering comments would be addressed before the next hearing. No school-project budget allocation, contract award, or bid approval was considered. The meeting also included routine minutes and announcements; no other procurement activity was identified.
