At the October 6, 2026, Town of Huntersville Board meeting, the board unanimously approved a $907,200 preliminary design services contract with Shellco LLC for a downtown parking deck. The project’s estimated total cost is approximately $10.5 million, and a later contract will address the construction fee proposal. The board also unanimously approved a budget amendment appropriating general fund balance for design and site-preparation expenses and a reimbursement resolution that would allow the town to reimburse project costs if it later issues debt. Staff said FY2027 planning contemplated debt-service payments from the additional 1-cent sales tax revenue known as Payback.
The board also voted, with one opposition, to direct staff to update the Richard Hatchett Small Area Plan as an internal project, without outside consultants, over an anticipated three to four months. Staff noted the plan would include public input. Other procurement- and investment-related updates included Charlotte Water’s reported $2.6 billion, five-year capital improvement program and its $685.6 million operating budget; these were informational presentations, not town board spending approvals. The board unanimously adopted a new town seal; staff said Haven Creative was contracted in July 2026 to develop the design, with no contract amount stated.
