The City of Sebastian Natural Resources Board met on October 6, 2026. Members approved the September 1 meeting minutes by motion and vote. Discussion focused on environmental outreach and events, including debriefs of Touch and Tour, Kids Fest, and the International Coastal Cleanup, which collected 618.4 pounds of debris at the Sebastian site. The Board reviewed the October 24 invasive-species Weed Wrangle, part of a CISMA grant project, and began planning the December 5 Christmas parade. Staff anticipated purchasing seeds and envelopes and boxed candy for parade giveaways; no spending approval or contract award was recorded. The Board discussed a possible partnership with the Marine Resources Council to conduct recurring Indian River Lagoon water-quality monitoring, with staff to follow up on the program and identify trained volunteers.
A resident raised concerns about herbicide use in city parks and vegetation removal and water levels at the Easy Street Park pond; members requested follow-up information for a future meeting. The Board also received updates on a possible Champion Tree Program, sandhill crane outreach, and the Environmental Stewardship Awards. No contract awards, bids, or other formal procurement decisions were identified.
