The County of Powhatan Planning Commission met October 6, 2026, to consider land-use applications and zoning matters; no contracts, purchases, budget allocations, or other procurement activity were identified. The commission unanimously recommended approval of conditional use permit 26-07-CUP for a campground on 13.8 acres at 2850 Red Lane Road, allowing use of two existing cabins subject to staff conditions, including occupancy limits and applicable health and safety requirements. The applicant requested changes to several conditions, but the motion approved the permit subject to the imposed conditions.

The commission recommended rezoning approximately 60.44 acres from A-10 to Rural Residential 5, subject to proffers, by a 3–2 vote. Discussion focused on traffic safety and a proposed entrance taper, road frontage, and environmental buffers; residents also suggested a full turn lane and a trail or sidewalk along Route 60. The commission additionally recommended a solar-energy-facility zoning amendment by a 5–0 vote, with a related ordinance amendment referred for a public hearing at the November 4 meeting. A citizen’s suggestion that future solar developers provide parkland or trails was discussion only, not an adopted requirement or spending action.
