The City of Battle Creek City Commission held a strategic plan review workshop on October 6, 2026. The city manager presented a plan built around four goals: an attractive, vibrant and prosperous community; a safe and secure city; connected neighborhoods; and effective governance. Departments identified 43 short-term action steps and 44 longer-term objectives to support the goals, with staff to track progress and report to the Commission. The plan is intended to inform future budgeting and resource allocation. Examples discussed included pursuing 10% population growth by 2030, neighborhood and pedestrian improvements, expanding security coverage at city events, and advancing discussion of a Riverside-area sewer bypass project, including securing funding for a future project start.

Commissioners thanked staff but said the goal-setting process felt rushed and called for stronger Commission engagement in future planning and major project discussions. The city manager said a proposed agreement identifying the items for review and implementation would be brought to a future meeting. No motions or votes, contract awards, vendor selections, or purchasing approvals were identified; the discussion concerned strategic priorities and future implementation rather than procurement decisions.
