Sedalia City Council meeting, October 6, 2026. Council approved water and sewer rate ordinances, with amendments providing a 10% discount for senior citizens; discussion cited proposed increases of 5% and 7.5%. Council also approved a 180-day moratorium on processing applications under the Midtown Residential Area Development Plan that seek tax abatement or funding, to allow review of the plan and its approval criteria. The city approved sales of city-owned property: 314 East Boonville for $7,000 and three South Prospect Avenue properties for a combined $10,000. A resident presented a phased proposal to buy city-owned land near the Katy Trail for a trailhead and market; council members responded positively and referred follow-up to the Community Development Committee, with no sale or funding decision made. The city’s audit presentation reported clean financial-statement and ARPA compliance opinions; approximately $1.8 million of the city’s $2.5 million in federal expenditures was under the ARPA program.
Capital and facilities plans included a cemetery strategic plan that identifies a possible companion-niche columbarium for a future budget and a committal shelter project whose bids were scheduled to open that day. The airport’s strategic plan covered completed runway/taxiway rehabilitation, proposed FBO remodeling, a runway rehabilitation need, and a private corporate hangar planned with CSC Construction, pending city permits and FAA approvals; the airport also reported that proceeds from a hangar sale to Pro Energy would support projects. Council heard concerns about utility affordability and water-system capacity; officials described sewer-plant compliance work and potential well development as future infrastructure needs. No specific construction award was made in the meeting.
