The Carteret County Public Schools Board of Education meeting on October 6, 2026, included recognition of a Duke Energy Foundation grant awarded to the Carteret Education Foundation for its “Building Resilient Schools” crisis-response and barrier-removal work. The grant amount was not stated, and the board did not consider a related spending or procurement vote. Bond-project updates reported that West Carter work remains on schedule, including locker-room and band-storage punch-list work and a planned auditorium-lobby renovation beginning mid-month and expected to finish before Christmas. Bid documents for tennis courts and tracks are being prepared and will be advertised as soon as possible; no bid approval or contract award was made. The board approved the consent agenda and second-read policy revisions, which include changes reflecting the state’s 2026 Appropriation Act; two policies are to be repealed upon approval. A separate first-read policy on instructional-material challenges was discussed but not voted on. The proposed naming of White Oak Elementary’s back field as Hines Field was deferred for consideration as an action item in October 2027, consistent with the district’s naming policy.
