The City of Starkville Board of Aldermen’s regular meeting on October 6, 2026, approved the consent agenda unanimously. Procurement actions included approving Groundstone Construction LLC’s $17,792.50 quote for driveway apron replacements; Hannon LLC’s $33,421 quote for Fire Station No. 4 driveway repairs; Smithers Engineers and Consultants LLC’s $108,050 design contract for the North Jackson Street Streetscape Project; Econ Construction Inc.’s $46,190.78 quote for skate park dirt work; and a $17,000 change order with MDR Construction for the electrical transmission relocation project. The board also approved a $12,000 annual fiber and network services renewal with Garner Communication Services, a $6,481.83 truck repair quote from Birmingham Haltech, a $5,300 fence extension quote from Myers Fence Sales LLC, a $44,875 water-treatment-building soffit and fascia project from Brent Barnett, and a $30,643.75 spare pump motor purchase from Burford. The consent agenda also included audit engagement letters, an engineering inspector agreement, and renewal of utilities’ property and casualty insurance proposal.
The consent agenda authorized advertising bids for the first phase of the airport AirCare Facility No. 3 site work, parking and ramp; South Montgomery generator materials; and substation voltage regulators, and included plans to advertise electric and water source-of-supply contracts for January–June 2027. It also authorized advertising for a replacement electric bucket truck and declaring the existing truck and a generator surplus. During public comment, a representative of 2B Durkin Contracting questioned the engineer’s recommendation to select the second-low bid for the Class I rubbish pit closure project, citing the firm’s relevant earthmoving qualifications; the transcript does not show a board decision on that issue. No other major procurement decision outside the consent agenda was clearly recorded.
