At its October 6, 2026 meeting, the King George County Board of Supervisors discussed the Amazon Web Services zoning settlement. The Board chair said AWS has vested rights to build a data center, and that the settlement provides $10 million to the county and a commitment not to build a data center on the Rappahannock River side of the property. The county’s planned vocational center is estimated to cost just under $20 million, with AWS expected to fund roughly half. Further negotiations remain underway, including on the project’s effects and community benefits. Residents raised concerns about water use, noise, and regional data-center development. Kitchen Drive residents also requested county funding for road repairs and maintenance, but no vote was taken; the chair said the matter would need to return on a future agenda.

The Board voted to accept a $119,300 FEMA/Virginia Department of Emergency Management grant for the Fire, Rescue, and Emergency Services swiftwater rescue and marine operations program, including an estimated $85,850 replacement vehicle and related equipment, and to certify the required non-supplanting form. The Board also approved a new county purchase-card policy; the travel policy was approved for a 120-day trial. Proposed leases for the Department of Social Services and Virginia Cooperative Extension were discussed, with a three-year term and two one-year renewal options, but no action was taken. Other capital projects mentioned included park restrooms and school roof replacement.
