The Monroe County Board of Commissioners’ regular meeting on October 6, 2026 included several approved spending and funding items. The board approved $1.7 million in county support for the Port of Monroe’s Michigan’s Maritime Gateway container-terminal project. The port director reported more than $32 million in project funding secured, including an $18 million federal Port Infrastructure Development Program award, and said the county contribution would complete the remaining funding. The project is expected to support 18–36 additional vessel calls annually. The board also approved the October accounts-payable report totaling $1,199,208.42 and two non-claims registers totaling $1,210,159.51; the accounts-payable presentation identified expenses for facility fire-system inspections, hazardous-waste collection, indigent tether services, sheriff training ammunition, and drain work.

Other approvals included the 2026 special drainage assessment report totaling $2,567,872.34 and a $150,563.10 county apportionment to the Monroe County Board of Road Commissioners. The board authorized submission of a health department readiness grant application, including a temporary position costing up to $75,000; accepted an $85,158 state court grant with a $400 county contribution; and accepted a Michigan Indigent Defense Commission grant of approximately $2.36 million with a county match of $215,785.29 (reported total program amount: $2,577,192.90). The county apportionment report, totaling approximately $282.65 million, was also adopted. All listed motions carried. A presentation on MCOP’s programs and outreach identified no new procurement action.
