Dallas County Commissioners Court regular meeting, October 6, 2026. The court heard an election-preparedness update: Dallas County planned to rent 500 voting units, revising an earlier estimate of 1,500, and expected to retain nearly 700 units for backup deployment. The elections office described expanded technician coverage, equipment testing, and coordination with vendor ES&S and county IT. Election-day polling locations were still being finalized, with a request for court approval expected October 20; some location contracts remained under negotiation. The court approved the consent agenda with items 13 and 39 held, and item 52’s funding source to be amended. During discussion of the bids, officials clarified that a sole-source item concerned the county courts’ and law library’s LexisNexis subscription, not electric-vehicle purchases; no dollar amount was stated. The consent agenda also included a roadside-sales restriction affecting unincorporated areas, including a prohibition on roadside sales of live animals, which officials said would not impose a financial burden on the county.
Other spending-related discussion included an estimate that maintaining and reconstructing county Type A roads would cost about $2.5 million annually, with a FY2027 estimate of $3.5 million; this was presented as an operating trend, not a new appropriation. The court discussed concerns about Metrocare financial reporting and a Parkland-related agreement, which was expected to return for executive-session discussion, and debated a proposed countywide tax increase for homelessness services without taking action. Resolutions were adopted honoring Prairie View A&M University’s 150th anniversary, 4-H, the Dallas County Master Gardener Program, and county retirees and community members. The court also authorized Facilities Management and other departments to take necessary steps, subject to appropriate funding, to name courtrooms in honor of Judge George Ashford and Judge Juan Hasso.
