St. Louis County Board meeting, October 6, 2026: The board established a public hearing for the annual Capital Improvement Plan amendment on November 17, 2026, and noted that Local Road Improvement Program grant applications, including one for Elephant Lake Road/County Road 180, will come before the board in upcoming meetings. The board approved a law-enforcement records-management-system access agreement supporting integration with the City of Duluth’s Tyler Technology platform. The county administrator said public safety aid included $750,000 directed toward the records system; the access agreement itself was described as having no fiscal impact, with costs and resources to be shared. The board also approved reallocating a vacant forester position to a planner role to support land planning and sales, and renewed a five-year state tax-forfeited-land permit for the Prospector Trail Alliance while supporting further evaluation of potential ATV trail alternatives.

A U.S. Forest Service update covered forest-management and wildfire work, including approximately $10 million previously secured for collaborative wildfire-risk reduction and a recently signed $6.5 million agreement with The Nature Conservancy to help implement it. The Forest Service reported selling about 56 million board feet of timber and described plans to solicit contracts for two appraisals related to the Boundary Waters in 2027; these were federal agency activities, not county contract awards. The board adopted the Little Fork River watershed management plan and approved its implementation framework. Other presentations included proclamations for 4-H Week and Ageism Awareness Day and an informational presentation on a proposed school trust constitutional amendment; no county procurement action was taken on that amendment.
