At the October 6, 2026 joint City of Boynton Beach City Commission and Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) meeting, the board unanimously approved moving forward with preservation and relocation of the historic Hurricane Alley/Harvey Oyer sign. The estimated contractor proposal is $132,000; Affiliated Development and Verdex Construction each offered $20,000, leaving up to $92,000 for the CRA to fund. Staff said an existing CRA historic-preservation line item can cover the amount without a budget amendment. The sign would be stored at a Public Works facility before a possible future relocation to Harvey Oyer Boat Ramp. Legal agreements, waivers, and coordination with the property owner and Oyer family remain to be completed.
The board also discussed replacing CRA legal counsel after Lewis Longman and Walker tendered its resignation. The city attorney’s office said it could take on an expanded scope at a substantially reduced cost compared with the CRA’s $505,000 legal-services budget, while retaining funds for outside counsel as needed. The board gave direction to bring back an amended and restated interlocal agreement for consideration, with an expanded scope through year-end and a proposed effective date of January 1; no final agreement was approved. The current firm agreed to assist with transition and finish pending real-estate transactions, potentially on an hourly basis. Public comments raised parking enforcement, street-reconstruction work, and short-term rentals; no related procurement action was taken.
