The Legislative and Policy Committee of OJRSD met on October 5, 2026, to review district policies. The committee moved multiple policies forward for full-board consideration, including Political Activities (321), Outside Activities (319), Working Periods (332), Dress and Grooming (221 and 325), Interscholastic Athletics and Activities (123), Parents as Coaches, Advisers, and Volunteers (917), Charter Schools (140), and Threat Assessment (236.1). Proposed changes addressed use of district resources, approval for employees’ outside activities, state-law references, Crown Act protections, coach reporting of disciplinary sanctions, transportation requirements, and threat-assessment procedures. Policy 123 was advanced with a proposed addition requiring a coach who receives or observes another coach receiving a contest-official sanction to report it. The committee also discussed reviewing how athletic statistics are maintained, potentially in a future workshop with the athletic department. Policies 419, 519, 421, and 525 were moved for deletion.
Policy 716, concerning pesticide applications, was not advanced. Members questioned why the policy named a specific pest-management vendor and included its contact information; administration was asked to consult legal counsel and consider removing the vendor-specific details. No contract awards, bids, budget allocations, or other purchasing decisions were identified. The vendor reference arose in a policy review and was not a procurement action.
