The CitySchoolsLIVE Policy Committee met on September 29, 2026, to review proposed revisions to Policy EGD on internet safety and acceptable technology use, policies governing board meetings, and the policy-development process. EGD revisions address approved AI tools and accounts, employee social-media practices, student and staff device use and care, and alignment with state and federal requirements, including Maryland’s requirement to develop an AI policy. Committee members and public commenters raised concerns about student privacy, cybersecurity, mental-health and learning impacts, staff training, transparency, human oversight, and the need for regular review of rapidly changing technology. Suggestions included an AI task force, a temporary moratorium, limits on high-risk uses, and review of software contracts and AI features; these were discussed, not adopted as decisions at this meeting.
The committee also reviewed proposals to consolidate and clarify board-meeting and policy-development procedures, with opportunities for stakeholder feedback and changes intended to make participation and decision-making easier to follow. If approved, some agenda changes—including moving procurement items earlier—could take effect soon after adoption. No contract awards, vendor selections, spending approvals, or formal votes were identified in the transcript. Compliance reports were presented, and a member requested follow-up information about retention and central storage of vetting and background-check records.
