At the Chula Vista Elementary School District’s Palomar modernization meeting on October 8, 2026, facilities staff presented planned campus improvements, including a new TK/kindergarten building and playground, accessibility upgrades, remodeled administration and classroom areas, restroom and roof/window work, and IT, intercom, and fire-alarm upgrades. The presentation also outlined a phased construction schedule: Buildings 600, 500, and 400 are planned for work from July 2027 through April 2028. Design approval from the Division of the State Architect (DSA) is expected by December 2026, with construction preparation anticipated during spring break 2027.

Interim housing is the main procurement item discussed. The presenter said procurement for portable classrooms had been completed, while also noting that the portables would go to the next board meeting for approval and that the interim-housing bid phase would follow approval; no contract amount or vendor was identified. Eight portable classrooms are planned, including three with interior restrooms, along with utility connections. Staff also plan to seek board approval for the portables, prepare supporting infrastructure and a new ramp during spring break, and establish a school-site committee.
