The October 6, 2026 Centerville City Council meeting included an update from UDOT and UTA on the FrontRunner 2X project. The project team said train procurement has begun and described plans for 11 double-track sections, 10 additional train sets, a maintenance facility, and a new station near Draper, with construction expected to start in spring 2027 and substantial completion targeted for 2030. The project has been recommended for approximately $1.213 billion in federal Capital Investment Grant funding, with the balance expected from local sources; grant timing remains a factor. The team also reported that Pages Lane will close October 15 through January 25 for utility relocations, with detours and coordination for schools and emergency services. Centerville Dual Creek Irrigation has eight larger meter installations remaining; the meters have been purchased and Nelson Construction is working on the remaining installations. Officials discussed the risk of losing some ARPA reimbursement funds if outstanding expenses and an accelerated completion plan are not submitted by the state’s deadline. A proposed South Davis Metro Fire building extension was discussed but deferred because it was not in the budget.
The council unanimously approved Resolution 2026-30, amending the fee schedule for boundary line adjustments and boundary establishments to reflect administrative costs, and approved the updated stormwater management plan, Resolution 2026-31, with requested document edits. The plan references an approximately $4,500 annual contribution to the Davis County stormwater coalition for required public outreach. In public comment, residents asked the city to revisit its prohibition on flag lots; the council directed that the issue be scheduled for a work session, without making a policy decision at this meeting. A resident also raised concerns about cybersecurity risks to water and wastewater systems; staff said the city has strengthened protections but cannot eliminate all risk. No new construction contract award or vendor selection by the council was identified.
