Pender County Schools Board of Education meeting, October 6, 2026. The board unanimously approved building automation control replacements at Pender High School and West Pender Middle School. It also approved change orders for the JH Lee project, JH Lee pay application No. 27, and MVP pay application No. 13; the project update identified pay application No. 27 at approximately $4,039,000. Other action items, including collection components, were approved, while an item concerning CMAQ composition and Policy 3210 was tabled. The board discussed the redistricting study, with a member estimating its cost at $12,000–$14,000 and criticizing the expense. A board member also called for a future public discussion of food-service costs and requested that HES be placed on a future agenda after concerns about school cleanliness; the HES contract had been renewed in August, with possible reconsideration if issues are not resolved.

Transportation staff reported a $4.6 million budget and projected that, if diesel remains at the reported $5.45 per gallon, fuel costs could reach about $2.35 million and the department could run short of funds by March 2027; no budget increase or procurement action was approved to address the projection. Staff said vehicles had been budgeted for and would return to the board for approval. The meeting also included updates on school growth, curriculum, career and technical education, and student services. No new vendor award or competitive bid approval was identified.
