The Fresno Historic Preservation Commission met on September 28, 2026. The commission considered whether the Peacock Building at 937–945 F Street and 942 Fagan Alley was eligible for Fresno’s local register of historic resources. City staff and Stantec, the city-contracted cultural resources consultant, reported that prior and recent evaluations found the buildings individually ineligible; whether they contribute to a potential Chinatown historic district remains undetermined. After discussion of the district-wide implications of demolition and the buildings’ condition, the commission voted to accept staff’s recommendation that the property is not eligible for individual local listing. No contract award or dollar amount was presented for this item.

Staff reported that the city may consider contracting with a firm with specialized technical expertise to assess preservation options for the Brewer Adobe; no selection, award, or cost was identified, and the code enforcement case remains open. Stantec’s city-contracted Chinatown survey and archaeological assessment are underway, with draft work expected for staff review before finalization. Staff also said Mills Act applications are in progress, with site visits planned and contracts expected at a future meeting, potentially by November; one mitigation program application was approved and work is underway. A commissioner expressed hope that Measure P funds would support museum disaster preparedness and other needs, but no funding allocation was made at this meeting.
