Tazewell County’s October 5, 2026 tentative FY2027 budget meeting reviewed countywide revenues, expenditures, the proposed tax levy, and department budgets. The board approved budget motions and amendments across multiple funds, many involving health-insurance adjustments. The tentative budget projects $49.3 million in revenues and $126.4 million in expenditures across all funds; contractual costs are budgeted at $25.7 million, covering items such as software licensing, jail healthcare and food, dispatch and election services, IT consulting, building maintenance, and engineering. No new contract awards or vendor selections were identified. The proposed levy increase is $948,363, including approximately $575,000 within the applicable property-tax limitation and $372,924 associated with the uncapped Veterans Assistance Commission fund. The levy itself was not voted on; final consideration was scheduled for October 28.

The five-year capital improvement plan anticipates about $28.2 million in the CIP fund and $2.1 million in the general fund. The board approved a CIP amendment of $437,486 for land and building improvements, security equipment, and contingency. The Justice Center annex is proceeding, while the McKenzie roof work was deferred; officials said contracts cover both roofs, but the McKenzie work will not proceed with the same company at this time. The meeting also reviewed reductions in a fee-funded account, including an $88,435 expense reduction and a proposed $100,000 revenue reduction tied to a completed project; a board member noted that changing the fee requires a separate ordinance or resolution.
