State & Local
The Seneca County Commissioners’ October 1, 2026 budget hearing reviewed 2027 requests from Juvenile and Probate Court, the Youth Center, the Coroner, the Treasurer, and court-related offices. Most departments proposed budgets generally flat with 2026, while staff raised compensation needs: the juvenile judge advocated for a 5% raise for court staff, and the Treasurer described staffing shortages and said she had not included salary increases pending countywide decisions. Commissioners said pay adjustments remained under consideration; no spending votes or contract awards were recorded.
Procurement and capital needs discussed included planning to replace the Juvenile Court’s aging 13-vehicle fleet, whose prior Reclaim Ohio grant funding is declining; a pending quote for fiber-ring network switches; and possible county website and PDF-accessibility work, with CivicPlus and other vendors mentioned. Youth Center security cameras and intercoms are expected to proceed using a reimbursable grant alongside planned parking-lot work, and Lutheran Social Services has replaced Firelands as a Youth Center provider. The Coroner requested additional training and travel funding and agreed to seek a Montgomery County autopsy-cost estimate to compare with the current Lucas County arrangement (discussed at about $530 per case). The Treasurer reviewed copier and cash-counter service arrangements, bill-printing costs, and potential printer purchases; no final purchasing decisions were made.
