The WSD Board of Education held a tax rate hearing on September 17, 2026. District staff reviewed the tax-rate process and reported assessed valuation of approximately $3.8 million, up 3.95% from the prior year. The proposed total levy remains unchanged at 4.5359, described as the district’s lowest rate since 2009. Staff noted that new real-property construction is expected to provide about $2.4 million in operating revenue and $3.4 million total, while explaining the district’s operating, capital-project, and debt-service funds and the effect of two temporary levies that together account for nearly 40 cents of the levy.
The discussion also covered financing for capital projects approved through Prop O. Staff recommended issuing the bonds in one offering in spring 2027, rather than multiple issues, and said the district expects to spend 85% of the proceeds within three years. The district will consider refinancing existing bonds depending on interest rates; no bond sale, contract award, or vendor selection was approved at this hearing. Staff said a motion to accept the tax rate would be brought forward at the regular board meeting, and the levy must be submitted to the county clerk by October 1.
