At the Grain Valley Schools board workshop on August 6, 2026, the board reviewed the district’s safety and security evaluation and summer school results. The safety report described completed security measures, including forced-entry film on all building windows, a locked classroom-door policy, 388 districtwide cameras, and the previously authorized fifth school resource officer (SRO). Bond-funded vestibule hardening is in design with Hollis + Miller Architects and Newkirk Novak Construction. The district is considering visitor-management equipment estimated at about $600 per school plus an iPad costing roughly $500–$600, and recommended considering a sixth SRO when financially feasible and continuing to prioritize safety in future bond and annual budgets. No new procurement vote or contract award was recorded.
The summer school report covered 1,425 enrollments, strong attendance at elementary sites, and 168 recovered credits. The board discussed staffing, attendance-based funding, and the significant expense and staffing demands of providing transportation; no transportation decision was made. Members also discussed simplifying collective-bargaining policies while preserving required procedures, with revised language still under review and no policy vote taken. The agenda was approved by motion and second.
