Grain Valley Schools’ School Board meeting on August 20, 2026, included a review of projects funded by the district’s $40 million bond. The board approved the Newkirk Novak bid package for the Matthews project by motion and unanimous vote. The package covers remaining project scopes and is intended to keep construction on schedule for completion before the 2027–28 school year. The presentation estimated the Matthews project at just under $21.2 million, about $300,000 under its project budget. Other project updates included the middle school athletic complex, currently more than $600,000 under budget, and the Snyder Bar project, estimated at just over $8 million against a $6 million budget. The early childhood center and four school vestibule projects were estimated at about $1.8 million combined, nearly $700,000 under budget. Overall, the bond program was projected to be about $485,000 over its $40 million budget, with some projects still at the estimating stage; administrators described plans to use contingencies and alternates to manage costs.
The board also heard that the athletic complex is under construction, with completion targeted for February 2027, and reviewed plans for school-entry security improvements. In an assessment-plan update, staff reported switching middle schools from i-Ready to Renaissance STAR for math and reading screening; STAR also includes the SABERS social-emotional assessment dashboard. No separate assessment-platform spending amount or related vote was stated. The agenda was approved, and the board later voted to enter executive session.
