The City of Carmel Historic Preservation Commission met on September 28, 2026. The commission reviewed its finances: the current budget was reported as $9,120.69, with a non-reverting fund of $227,934.64. Reimbursements for facade-grant work at three properties were pending and expected to total roughly $5,000–$10,000, which could exhaust the current budget. A Hunters Glen representative sought help with a deteriorating brick wall; estimates discussed ranged from $131,000 to just under $200,000 for rebuilding in brick and nearly $400,000 for a block-wall alternative. No funding was approved; staff noted the property was not currently eligible for facade grants, and possible future survey inclusion and grant eligibility were discussed.

The commission approved the draft North Rangeline Road district plan for use in public information sessions, subject to changes based on public input. It also voted to recommend that the Common Council amend the ordinance requiring certified mail for proposed survey additions, allowing less expensive mailing options; the amendment itself was not adopted at this meeting. For the Blue School property, the Redevelopment Commission reported that it had engaged a structural consultant and a historic-preservation architect to assess the building, with later construction pricing anticipated; no construction contract or award was reported. In two demolition-delay matters, the commission voted to retain the existing delay periods, and no procurement award was made.
