The City of Sioux Falls informational meeting on October 6, 2026, included an update from Public Parking on proposed fee, fine, and enforcement changes. Public Parking, an enterprise fund, reported unanimous support from its advisory board and said it plans to bring an ordinance to the City Council within about two weeks, with most changes proposed for January 2027. Proposed adjustments include raising the monthly meter-bag fee from $100 to $200, the leased-parking rate cap from $87 to $100, and the hourly meter-rate cap from $1.50 to $2. For 2027, the department proposed increasing rates at Phillips Avenue and adjacent meters from $1.50 to $1.75, while lowering rates at two parking ramps in November. It also proposed extending meter enforcement to 7 p.m. and simplifying citation escalations; the common overtime-parking fine would increase from $10 to $15, then to $30 after 30 days. No Council vote on these proposals occurred during the meeting.

The department said parking revenue remains in the system and may support future parking needs, including potential ramp development. Future plans include reviewing wayfinding and signage, with digital rate signage among the options; some technology improvements have been considered cost-prohibitive at present. Downtown Sioux Falls, Inc. supported continued data-informed parking management and clearer signage, and noted that private ramps, generally funded through TIFs, add downtown capacity. No contract award, vendor selection, or purchasing action was identified.
