The Fitchburg Personnel Committee met October 5, 2026. Members supported a resolution to adjust compensation for elected officials, noting that pay had not increased in nearly 30 years and that higher compensation could improve access to elected service. The proposed increases would be phased in for the mayor, Common Council, and municipal court judge beginning May 1, 2027, 2028, and 2029; the resolution was moved forward. The committee also discussed updating the employee handbook to allow permanent part-time employees to enroll in dental insurance, with premiums paid entirely by employees—$50.19 per month for an individual plan and $138.58 for a family plan, with no cost to the city.

The committee reviewed 2026 employee engagement survey results and comparisons with the prior year and other public employers. Staff described plans to address lower-scoring areas, including communication and employee involvement in decisions, and to include staff in the City Hall remodel process through coordination with the consultant. Quantum Workplace was identified as the survey vendor, but no survey-related contract or other procurement action was considered. The committee also approved the August 5 meeting minutes and adjourned.
